Development of Digitalization in Civil Registration and Vital Statistics and Demographic Statistics Discussed in Ashgabat

July 9, 2026, Ashgabat – A working meeting dedicated to aspects of digitalization in the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system and demographic statistics took place at the UN Building. The event was organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Office in Turkmenistan within the framework of the joint work plans for 2026 with the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics.

The main objective of the meeting was to discuss regional progress and the experiences of various countries in CRVS development, as well as to strengthen interagency cooperation for efficient data exchange through the introduction of digital solutions into the demographic accounting system. Representatives from the State Committee on Statistics, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, the Ministry of Adalat (Justice), the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan participated in the discussions. Population and data experts from the UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia also joined the session online.

During the session, participants analyzed the tasks ahead for developing digitalization within the CRVS system, paid special attention to tentatively defining the roles of ministries and agencies in coordinating data exchange among healthcare, civil registry, statistics, and internal affairs structures, and agreed upon further joint steps for the development of a digital population register.
