A humanoid robot developed by Chinese smartphone manufacturer «Honor» has run 100 metres in 9.32 seconds, surpassing the world record set by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. The achievement was reported by China’s state television.
According to reports, the robot, nicknamed “Lightning”, reached this result during preparation trials for the second World Humanoid Robot Games, which opened in Beijing on Saturday.
The robot’s top speed reached 14.5 metres per second. For comparison, Usain Bolt completed the 100-metre sprint in 9.58 seconds — a world record set on 16 August 2009 at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin, which remains the official human world record.
In April, the “Lightning” robot also won a 21-kilometre half marathon held in Beijing, recording a time of 50 minutes and 26 seconds. This result also surpassed the world record among elite athletes. During the half marathon, the robot was 169 centimetres tall, with legs measuring 95 centimetres in length. Later, researchers extended its legs by 10 centimetres, increasing their length to 1.05 metres.
