Businessman and politician Abelardo de la Espriella was sworn in as the president of Colombia. The inauguration ceremony was broadcast live on the Caracol television channel.
The ceremony took place not in the capital Bogotá, but in the city of Cali in western Colombia. Among those attending were the presidents of Argentina, Chile and Ecuador: Javier Milei, José Antonio Kast and Daniel Noboa.
De la Espriella was elected in the second round of the presidential elections held on 21 June. He received 49.6% of the vote, defeating his rival Iván Cepeda from the left-wing “Historic Pact” party by 0.9 percentage points.
