Construction of the «Advanced Technology Chip Fab» (ATCF) research center is underway in the U.S. state of Texas. The facility is designed to develop next-generation semiconductor technologies. Newly released aerial images and videos show the growing scale of the project. The information was reported by Ixbt.com.
Blogger Joe Tegtmeyer, who regularly covers the construction of Giga Texas and the Starbase spaceport, shared photos and videos showing the current progress of the future complex. Foundation work is currently continuing at the site, construction materials are being delivered, and preparations are underway for the next stages.
The ATCF project is considered the first phase of Elon Musk’s Terafab initiative, which aims to develop the company’s own artificial intelligence chips. According to available information, Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, and Intel are expected to cooperate in building the semiconductor complex.
The first phase of the project is estimated to require around $55 billion in investment. Once operating at full capacity, total investment could reach $119 billion, making it one of the largest industrial technology projects in the world.
The ATCF facility is expected to combine the production of logic chips, memory, and advanced semiconductor packaging technologies within a single manufacturing cycle. The AI accelerators produced there will be used in Tesla electric vehicles, robotaxis, Optimus humanoid robots, and artificial intelligence data centers.
Earlier, ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet confirmed that he had held discussions with Elon Musk about creating one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturing centers. The new infrastructure could play an important role in supplying high-performance chips for future space and terrestrial projects.
