Turkmen and Abu Dhabi cyclists begin joint training camp in Ashgabat

04.08.2026

Ashgabat is hosting a joint training camp for a cycling club from Abu Dhabi and Turkmenistan’s national team. The event, organized in line with plans approved at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting, will run from August 4 to 20.

The delegation from the UAE numbers 28 people, including club management, coaching staff, a technical specialist, and 24 athletes. The guests are staying at the Turgenler hotel in the capital and are training at facilities of the Olympic Village, as well as on the city’s roads.

Road sessions for the athletes are held on Ataturk, Archabil and Kopetdag avenues, and in the picturesque Gokdere gorge. The training program includes distances ranging from 60 to 150 kilometers, over which the cyclists will cover about 1,270 kilometers in total.

Six training sessions and three educational and methodological seminars are planned at a specialized velodrome, coordinated with relevant government agencies to ensure road safety and medical support.

The sporting partnership between the Abu Dhabi cycling club and the Turkmen federation is ongoing and has developed since 2023, including mutual participation in international competitions. Fifteen Turkmen cyclists are taking part in the current camp under head coach Kakabay Atayev and his assistant Igor Yoldashev.

After the joint training in Ashgabat concludes, Turkmenistan’s national team will travel to Thailand to compete in the Asian Track Cycling Cup, scheduled for August 28-30, while the season’s main event for the national team will be the Asian Games in Japan.
