From August 1 to 5, the Central Asian Karate-do Championship was held in Aktau, Republic of Kazakhstan. More than 420 athletes took part in the major tournament, where representatives of Turkmenistan’s national and youth teams delivered successful performances, winning 4 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze medals — 21 medals in total.
On the first day of the championship, in the kata events, Turkmen karate athletes won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. Muhammetresul Hairullayev, a student of Secondary School No. 18 in Bayramaly, Mary Velayat, became champion among boys under 14. Allanur Yalkabov, a student of Specialized Secondary School No. 52 in Ashgabat, won a silver medal among 16–17-year-old juniors. Musa Gurbanov and Shirmuhammet Garymyradow from Bayramaly earned bronze medals among athletes aged 10–11.
On the second day of the competition, the kumite events brought further success and new medals for Turkmen athletes. Safiya Nazarova, a student of Secondary School No. 42 in Ashgabat, defeated all her opponents in the up to 47 kg weight category among girls aged 12–13 and won the gold medal. Leyli Hommatmyradowa, a student of Secondary School No. 4 in Bayramaly, Mary Velayat, also reached the top step of the podium among girls aged 10–11 in the up to 36 kg weight category.
On the same day, Emir Gurbanov, Gulayym Dowletowa and Babageldi Myradow won silver medals. Shamuhammet Hojayew, Kasym Hallyýew, Muhammetaly Atdayew and Anara Baratowa took third places in their respective age and weight categories, adding more medals to the national team’s tally.
On the final day of the championship, Turkmen karate athletes won another 1 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals. Alymuhammet Kakalyýew, a student of Specialized Secondary School No. 61 in Ashgabat, became the strongest athlete among 14–15-year-old juniors in the up to 63 kg weight category. Remezan Gurbanow won a silver medal in the same age and weight category.
Among athletes aged 16–17, Gurbannazar Amandurdyýew from Ak Bugdaý District of Ahal Velayat won a silver medal in the up to 55 kg category, while Diana Gorinowa from Ashgabat won silver in the up to 66 kg category. Remezan Orazmämmedow, Nurana Amandurdyýewa and Annaoraz Azadow earned bronze medals in their respective weight categories. Another bronze medal among senior athletes in the over 84 kg weight category was won by Arslan Babanazarow, a fifth-year student of the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan named after Great Saparmurat Turkmenbashi.
